Question A question on 'too...to'!

Even accounting for the fact that Megellan was selected as the best fund in a large sample of contestants, my approach shows that its performance still was too good to be attributable to chance.

Above is the sentense I'm confused. Does the 'too good to be' mean 'so good that not' or it is a positive meaning? It's very important for this sentense and for my conclusion on the paper.

Thanks for your help!

Joe

Hmm. I agree with Szymon. It's positive. But . . . the sentence itself is a little hard to wade through. How about making it less wordy? Here's how I read it - it took me a few seconds to figure out what you were trying to say,

Your findings show that Megellan's performance is good, so the fact that it's popular, or was selected as the best fund, doesn't seem to be based on chance.

Is that correct?

Note, 'still' is a wee awkward. Try setting it off with commas or moving it after 'was'.

Casiopea,

Thanks a lot for the suggestion! It's not my own sentence and I was feeling hard to digest the paper because of the long, wordy sentences.
