    Both words, in and during, are prepositions. In is used to denote inclusion or limited position (ex.-I am in the debate club. We are in the room.). During is used to denote a point in time (ex.-I swim during the summer. I was offered a position during my internship.). You could interchange them because of the limited position/point in time definition (ex.-I swim in the summer. I swim during the summer.).
