    Default As well as

"But note that this is not a common structure. It is more normal to put as well as … after the main clause. This almost always happens with pronoun subjects.
    • Mary was delighted to hear the news as well as Ann.
    • He is rich as well as me. (NOT He, as well as I/me, is rich.)"

Do those two sentences sound natural to you? They don't to me. I even find them a bit confusing. I think they would sound better if worded as follows:

Mary was delighted to hear the news, as was Ann.
He is rich, as am I.

    Thanks!

I agree. More common in every day speech would be:

Mary was delighted to hear the news, and so was Ann.
He is rich, and so am I.

Why did you write "worded THEM as follows"? "I think they would sound better if worded as follows" sounds fine to me.

My apologies. You are correct. I mistakenly thought you had written, "If I had worded as follows." I was very surprised to discover a moment ago, when I re-read your post and my response, that the I was a figment of my imagination.
