Dear Madam/Sir,

Can you help me with the letter of motivation for PhD position

My name is ..………….. I had recently completed Master of Molecular Biology from University of .............. I had defended my master thesis entitled “Technical aspects of immunohistochemistry for detection of Aβ1-43 plaques in human Alzheimer’s disease”. I had completed Bachelors of Pharmacy and Diploma of Pharmacy from India. My objective is to become a scientist at the leading university/research institute and want to investigate the molecular mechanism underlying Neurological disorders. I hope and believe that this PhD program will assist me to start my career as a scientist in the field of Biological science and will also perfectly satisfy my inherent inclination for the beauty of Neuroscience and pursuit of something new.

I was brought up in an uneducated family which nurtured a sense of scientific temper and ability in me to ask reason and analyze. My interest in brain science was developed by reading books on meditation which dates backs to my high school years. After completing my high school, I opted to graduate in the field of Pharmaceutical science. However due to wretched financial conditions I had to work for six years to built up own finance to graduate in the field of Pharmaceutical science and after graduation for pursuing Master degree abroad. During graduation, I had worked on various short-term neuropharmacology projects involving behavioral and biochemical techniques elucidating the mechanism of action and the role of neurotransmitters involved in the process of learning and memory in rats. My interest in research and project work helped me to initiate a collaborative project between AISSMS College of Pharmacy and National Institute of Virology.

It will be a great opportunity and honor to work on this PhD position, since the project will help in the investigation of cellular and molecular mechanism of Ras or nitric oxide protection underlying Parkinson’s disease. It has been suggested that Ras protects neuronal degeneration in Parkinson’s disease; however its cellular and/or molecular signal transduction mechanism is unclear. Hence exploring the mechanism of Ras or nitric oxide will not only help in elucidating the protective mechanism of Parkinson’s disease, but also may be other neurodegenerative diseases. I hope and believe doctoral degree at your department will bring unique opportunity to start my scientific career. ...............university has a glorious history of research and renowned research faculty. I had walked through the webpage’s and realized that the research level is international, the environment is stimulating, and the projects are creative.

To achieve my pursuit of a doctoral degree, I have a strong foundation in Molecular biology and Neuroscience as well as one year research experience and few publications. I am fluent in written and spoken English. I am confident that joining your PhD program will be a foremost step towards my final destination, since I am in a pursuit of research and not of money. I would welcome an opportunity to be interviewed with you. Enclosed you will find CV and all the required documents for PhD program.
