    Default Used to and Would.

    I have been studying English for a long time. However, I do not know how to use used to/would. I think it is not difficult.

    Well, it's not all that easy. Here is a crude guide:

    Used to is used for actions and states; would is not used for states.

    When I was younger, I used to/would respond to questions in this forum.
    I used to/would be pretty highly thought of in this forum.

    If the action or state is clearly no longer true, we use used to:

    I used to drink a lot. Those were the days!
