Dear all,
What is the meaning of the phrase "if not for you" in the following context"
"MOST MARRIED MEN BELIEVE THAT, IF NOT FOR YOU, THEY COULD ACTUALLY BE WITH THESE OTHER WOMEN."
that was said by a woman to 2 women.
There is no more context because it's a trailer, but what could she mean?
Thanks a lot.
If you were not part of their lives (in other words, if they were not married to you), these married men could be with these other women.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
