What does "knight rider" refer to in the following context:

A: GRACE CONKED OUT. SO I SNUCK OUT TO THE VAN. SPANKED IT.

B: WHAT? WHAT ARE YOU? KNIGHT RIDER? WHY CAN'T YOU JUST GO IN THE BATHROOM LIKE A NORMAL GUY?

Knight Rider was an American TV show from about thirty years ago (my oldest son loved it) about a crime fighter and his customized, futuristic, computerized, souped-up, talking car. I believe it was a Pontiac Trans-am.

Spanked it means masturbated.

In other words, Grace fell asleep, so the speaker went out to his van and pleasured himself. His friend made the Knight Rider reference to mean that the speaker may be carrying his relationship with his vehicle just a little too far.
