Re: asking about morphology
.
1-- a word is a series of morphemes separated from other words by blank spaces, and carrying semantic meaning.
2-- a root is the simplest form of a lexical morpheme, upon which words are built; for example, the root -dors- produces the words dorsal, endorse, dossier, etc.
3-- a suffix is usually a single bound morpheme which is not a word in itself, but which attaches to roots to form words, usually to indicate part of speech or declension; the suffix -ist produces the nouns sophist, linguist, pianist, etc.
4-- a lexical item is a dictionary-form word.

asking about phonology
im taking TESL study in one of university in Malaysia. I have some problem with the Phonolgy Course. My tutor asking me what is "languistic Task" under Linguistic competence and linguistic perfomance. Can you tell me further about "languistic task" under that topic?

Re: asking about phonology
.
A linguistic task is, I think, just what we used to call a language exercise or activity. Tasks are designed to cause the student to use the language in authentic ways-- obtaining information, solving problems, etc, in a close approximation to real language use.
