How should I describe in simple way when one is playing in the sandpit and use a stick to put into the sand and take out vigoursly which the sand splash around and hurt the eyes of people around.

My I try :

Tom used the stick to ____into the sand and had the sand splashed and ___ into my eyes.

Water splashes, not sand.

Tom used a stick to dig into the sand and threw the sand at me, it flew into my eyes.
