the nuance of live to

Dear all,

"...But I won't invite my child to change if my interaction with him are primarily in order to get him to change. I become an agent of change only to the degree that I begin to live to help things go right rather than simply correct things that are going wrong..."

In the pasage above, what kind of nuance is added by "live to"? I don't know why it's there? My dictionary doesn' help me about this use of "live". Does it mean "focusing on" or something?

That's a convoluted sentence that I can't be bothered to try to get my head round.

'Live to' has the nuance of 'have a purpose in life'.

'I only live to make you happy, my darling.'
