counseling vs. "A" counseling
What is the difference between "counseling with no article" and "counseling with an A?"
The dictionary says "counseling" is an uncountable noun, but I heard some people say "I gave someone a counseling" or "I received a counseling."
Does "a counseling" mean ONE counseling session? And when would you guys use "a counseling" and "counseling?"
Thanks in advance for curing my headache!

"A counseling" is incorrect in my opinion. I wouldn't use it.

You could say "a counseling session," (adjective) or "she received counseling from..." (noun.)

Re: counseling vs. "A" counseling
I wouldn't use a counseling, but have no real problems with it. I'd say a counseling session, but people often cut words out when talking to other people in the know, so if two counselors were talking, I think it would be OK..
