The meaning is the same as of "I wish the ground would swallow me up" = you are so embarrassed by something that you wish you would just disappear

To add to freezeframe's post, the idea of "transferring" is used in this comic (which obviously takes place in a school hallway) because students sometimes transfer to different schools for various reasons. In this case, Charlie Brown is so embarrassed, transferring to a different school is not far enough away.
