photos were taken in/from(?) 2009 to 2011

Hi, I was working on a photographic portfolio and ran into this problem.
I saw both usage in web search but have no idea which of them is correct.

"photos were taken in 2009 to 2011"
"photos were taken from 2009 to 2011"

Or can I simply state "photos were from 2009 to 2011"?

A straightforward solution is: The photos were taken between 2009 and 2011.
