Which word should I use? I will go for the former. Am I correct me?

Neither is exactly correct, since laptops were not actually 'invented' so much as simply made more compact.
The only change that laptops brought about was in portability, otherwise there was no revolution or transformation in 'computing' itself.
Maybe: Laptops have revolutionized the world of mobile computing.

Where did they come from? Surely you're not suggesting a laptop is a natural phenomenon that was just waiting for us to "compact" it

Both are fine if we grant that laptops are an invention.

The word revolution and revolutionary are empty signifiers by now. They are used to describe anything and everything from detergents to parking meters.
