    Default before I could

The train departed before I could get to the station.

This sentence is taken from a grammar book without any context. Did 'I' get to the station? Does the sentence mean 'The train departed before I got to the station?

    Thank you in advance

    Hi Joham

    Yes.
The train departed before you got to the station.

If you realise, in time, that it has already left, you could turn back and never actually arrive at the station.
