If you use "from," I'd think that the deadline has already passed. For instance, With just minutes away from a deadline would mean you just missed the deadline by few minutes away.

Therefore, I think that using "to" is the way to go.

Like any other of my responses, my answer need to be verified.

"Away from" is OK and I would prefer it.
