Are these sentences correct:
1-Best would be to go home. (The best thing to do ...)
2-Best was to go home. (The best thing thing to do ...)

Neither sentence starting with best is correct. They both lack subjects.

The best thing to do would be to go home. (This is the present or future tense.)

The best thing to do was to go home. (This is the past tense.)
