and asked me for some suggestion.
I asked him:
"How many people will be served with the big fish?
Three or four people?"

But Bob seemed not understand my question.
I am not sure if there were any grammatical mistakes in my question in red.

It's OK. I would probably say "How many (people) are there for dinner? " or "How many people will be eating fish?"
