Default a cash mountain of..... riding

"They've got a cash mountain riding on this project."

Is it OK to say that people have invested a lot of money in this project?

Yes. I would add that, besides the high investment already done, the sentence implies there's much more to add if needed

"A mountain of cash" is heard more frequently.

If I want to add the exact amount of money, could I say "a cash mountain of 300.000"?

    Hi there,

I doubt it. By adding an exact figure you would be ruining the image of counless coins and bills all gathered in a heap which is large enough to resemble a (green ) mountain, which is the aim of the simile.

    I agree with Charlie.

£300,000 would be a mountain of cash to me but small change to Bill Gates.
