on asking questions

is there any difference?
i'm confused.


When asking questions like:

DO YOU WANT to go to the party?
Yes, I want to go.
No, I don't want to go.

On the other hand, I read from a Grammar book that says " ... in asking negative questions we say:
DON'T YOU WANT to go the party?
Yes, I want to go.
NO, I don't want to go.
I learned that the reason why we use a negative question because we expect the listener to agree with us.
