    Default What is "it"

    Hello.

    I came across the following fragment:

    "Okay. What's the problem? Is it that I'm not going with you to the party?" (Laurel Osterkamp, Starring in the Movie of My life)

    I think the underlined "it" referes to "the problem." Am I correct?
    Please tell me your judgement.

    It could be. It could also be part of the construction that we discussed very recently here: Please tell me how to use "it is that" constructions
