Default hope against hope

"She was hoping against hope that she was the one being spoken of."

To hope against hope is to hope with little reason or justification. My question is: when she hopes against hope, does she know there isn't much hope?

I am hoping against hope that you understand what I'm talking about.

I think she knows there's no hope but can't put up with it and craves for a wonder, poor girl

Look at this link: http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_b...sages/335.html , it may be of some help.

Good luck
