1.Is "draw a recognizable image" a real acting of drawing a picture or extraction of images in dream mentally? If the assumption is animals can draw a picture, how can they draw with their paws?
2. Is "their only images" what they made or the images of them? Is it a mental image or actually drawn images?
These two are really confusing, please help me!

The urge to make art is unique to us. No other animal has ever been observed to draw a recognizable image spontaneously in the wild. In fact, their only images have been produced under carefully controlled laboratory conditions that tell us more about the experimenter than they do about art.

Humans can create aesthetic objects, such as drawings and paintings and animals can't. Wild animals have not been seen (observed) to create any kind of image that is recognizable (that appears to be meaningful/representation of something). Animals that have created images/paintings (such as the famous cases of chimpanzee or elephant artists) have only done so in the controlled environment of a laboratory or zoo (conditions created by humans).

I really appreciate your great effort to find the original paragraph, actually this is from my student's material, I coudn't photocopy all of them, so I just wrote down some in my notebook.
Does it mean there are some paintings by some animals? I don't know what kind of artworks they are...I have never heard of them, but it seems to be true according to your explanation.
