    Funny how I keep thinking about Bob, you know, wondering if he can see us, or hear us, and what it's like being where he is. They say everything's better when you are dead, that it's all happiness and no pain.

    Does "where" mean the place or the state? Please.

    It can be either, depending on the religious beliefs of the user. Generally, it's probably safe to say that the historical progression of meanings has moved over the years from place to state, but there are always fundamentalist exceptions. Ducking and covering...
