    Default Grammar

    Hi:

For the following sentence, I know the main clause is:

The ESP RNA Pelleting Fast Run simulation is optimized for speed.

My question is: What is "of a sample suspended in 4 M GuSCN without CsCl layered over a CsCl cushion occupying one-fourth of the tube volume" What does it modify?

    -------------------------------------------------------------

The ESP RNA Pelleting Fast Run simulation, of a sample suspended in 4 M GuSCN without CsCl layered over a CsCl cushion occupying one-fourth of the tube volume, is optimized for speed.

I think it modifies "simulation." My guess is that it's a defining clause but it's so long that the writer has separated it with commas in roder to make the main clause apparent. I could be wrong because I don't have the full context and also I really don't know much about Bio-Chemistry (?).

It is a prepositional phrase, of a type often termed an 'objective genitive', and, as Mr Ben has pointed out, it modifies the preceding noun 'simulation'.
