"XY data is saved as data sets on the web server."
How does that sentence sound to you? It sounds awkward to me. I think it would be better to write "saved in the form of data sets" or "XY data are saved as data sets."
It's perfectly normal (As are the other two sentences although I prefer to think of data like information, singular and uncountable). Doesn't all the software on your computer give you the option to Save or Save as... ?
Not sure if that's a rhetorical question, but I didn't write that sentence.
