Thumbs up singular subject & singular verb,

Please assist me with these,

1. Neither Shakespeare nor Chaucer have lost the appeal.
2. The class were listening attentively to the principal.
3. The crowd shout its approval of the speaker.
4. Neither the market nor the grocery shop s offer goods at a low price.
5. Everybody who defy the traffic laws will be punished by the legal authority.
6. Every nook, every cranny were explored in the search for the hidden treasure.
7. None of the party have promised to swear an oath of allegiance.
8. Nobody know what diffculty I experienced during my childhood.
9. The convict felt that neither the prison officer nor his colleagues was capable of restricting his actions.
10. Each of the men wishes to have their complaints heard.
11. Each of the runners receive their prize.
12. Every closet, cupboard and drawer was infested with rats.
13. The coach along with the players were dissatisfied with the result of the competition.
14. She is one of the girls who is always absconding classes.
15. Neither Peter nor tom were present when we arrived at the concert.
16. Each of the machines are to be overhauled during the holiday.

Here are a few examples.

1. Neither Shakespeare nor Chaucer ____ lost the appeal.
=> With 'Neither . . . nor', the verb agrees in number with the nearest/closest subject.

2. The class _____ listening attentively to the principal.
=> The noun 'class' can be plural or singular:

As individuals within a group: They were
As a group: It was

5. Everybody who defy the traffic laws will be punished by the legal authority.
=> 'Everybody' is singular.

13. The coach along with the players were dissatisfied with the result of the competition.
=> If you can replace the subject with 'They' and the sentence doesn't change in meaning, then the subject takes a plural verb.
