Here are a few examples.

=> With 'Neither . . . nor', the verb agrees in number with the nearest/closest subject.

2. The class _____ listening attentively to the principal.
=> The noun 'class' can be plural or singular:

As individuals within a group: They were
As a group: It was

5. Everybody who defy the traffic laws will be punished by the legal authority.
=> 'Everybody' is singular.

13. The coach along with the players were dissatisfied with the result of the competition.
=> If you can replace the subject with 'They' and the sentence doesn't change in meaning, then the subject takes a plural verb.
