    Default Comma

"After not doing sports whatsoever for 3 months (and putting on some weight in the process) I took up weight training."

Would you put a comma after the parentheses? I feel that a pause is needed, so I would.

    Thanks!

    Not a teacher

After not playing sports for 3 months (and putting on some weight in the process) I took up weight training.

    Not playing any sports whatsoever...

'doing' sports doesn't quite ring true.
