Hello!
I am currently translating Anthony Capella's The Food of Love. I came across the expression "passing the time with" and now I am wondering if it means the same as "passing the time of day". The sentence goes: "...(they) were standing at the bar, drinking ristretti, arguing about love, waiting for the cornetti to arrive from the bakery, and generally passing the time with Gennaro before jumping on their Vespas to go off to various restaurants around the city that employed them."
While waiting for the cornetti to arrive from the bakery, they passed the time (it took to wait for the cornetti) by speaking with Gennaro.
