what is the more correct; our teacher has promised us or had promised us or just promised us ?
in the context of talking about a past event (long time ago)

Can you see the difference in these examples -

Our teacher has promised us a class trip. I hope he doesn't forget.

Last week, our teacher promised us a class trip.
When I was at school fifty years ago, our teacher promised us a class trip.

We went on a class trip last term. Our teacher had promised us the term before that he would take us.
