What’s “turf wars“mean?

It's a gang battle. 'turf' means piece of land and it's slang for a section of a neigbourhood area that a gang assumes as its rightful territory. Each gang has its own turf. Battles occur when gang A, for example, is seen as invading gang B's territory.
