A butler was supposed to prepare a meal for a canon and his visitor.

When the meal was on the table, the canon said to his butler:

All right, Reeve, back to the Third Programme; we can manage now.

I think canon gave the butler some order. There's nothing about watching TV.

The Third programme was one of the BBC's three radio services for many years. (The other two were the Home Service and the Light Programme). The canon was telling the butler he was no longer needed; he could return to his room and listen to the radio.
