if someone says: she shoots, she scores--what do they mean by that??
Thank you in advance
I have to proudly admit that it's a Canadian phrase coined by Foster Hewitt meaning the player is scoring a hockey goal. Have a look at the website and you can find bits and pieces of information regarding the origins of this phrase.Originally Posted by carla guaraldi

Hello, thank you very much.![]()
It could well have a figurative meaning also. It's used in the "mating game", to mean that someone has achieved some success in "scoring" with the object of their affection.
Joan: [to friends, Mary and Beth] I'm going to go talk to that cute guy over there.
{Joan leaves, starts talking to the guy and they leave the bar together}
Mary: [to Beth] She shoots, she scores.
