Please take a look at this sentence.
I stayed at his house for a week, (_________) I received a letter from my girlfriend.
Which relative adverb should be in the brackets?
I think where should be in, but in my grammar book, the answer says when should be in the brackets.
Help me.
To me, for "when" to make sense it would need to read:
I had been staying at his house for a week when I received a letter from my girlfriend.
I think "where" and "then" make sense with "I stayed at his house..."
