I have already crossed swords with
Could you please tell me if the idiom "to cross swords with" is too pompous in this context?
M: But if no measures are taken the company is likely to be on the rocks soon.
E: I have already crossed swords with people in the Marketing about wrong planning without doing the proper market research first. But they don`t seem to care much.
The student who used the idiom this way was simply limited by a list of idioms attached to a unit, and it was part of their module task.
Thank you for the time and help.
Re: I have already crossed swords with
It's a perfectly acceptable use of the expression in this context.
