| Hi, can someone tell me whether "in effect" is served as noun on the above sentence? If it's a noun, does this mean "in fact" or "in practice"? And manufacturing modifies the noun? Thanks. |

| "In effect" is a phrase which means "in practice". In this sentence it is used as the adverb "practically" e.g. "In cold-water habitats, certain invertebrates and fish convert starches into complex carbohydrates called glycerols, (which is)practically manufacturing its own antifreeze." |
