    Default stand (v)

    Dear teachers,

    Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the verb in bold in the following sentences?

    I shook my head. I could barely stand to think of it.

    He informed me that she could hardly stand to look or talk to me because I reminded her of him so much.

    stand = endure

    V.

    Hi Vil

    Maybe the word "bare" could be used as a better direct replacement for "stand" in these cases.
    "Endure" doesn't quite work as a direct replacement.

    Hope this helps
