    Default paper back

    Do we call paper back for the books with soft paper as cover? Then how about those with hard cover?

    Paperback is written as one word.

    According to the New York Times, hardcover is written as one word too.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Paperback books have stiff paper covers.

    Those with hard covers are hardbacks.
