    Question free love

    Dear Teachers,

could you tell me does the expression (and concept) "free love" have a negative connotation in current English and / or general opinion (in UK and USA)?

I don't think it has a negative connotation but that may be subjective. It referred to a time in the 1960s when many people became very free and easy with themselves and intimacy (ie sex!) Some people see it as a time of great sexual liberation when the world was a happier, more chilled-out place. Some people see it as a time of promiscuity and the start of a decline in moral standards.

I think it depends on the morals and opinions of individuals- some will view it positively, others negatively, but as Gilnetter says, it's not something that is heard much nowadays.

The term "free love" is very 1960s/70s.....the Politically Correct term today for folks who don't confine their physical love to one partner is "polyamorous."

It definitely depends on who you're talking to. The United States is very divided politically and morally these days...
