Default had or would/ few- less ??

    Hello,

    Here is a sentence:

I am going to leave the room for a minute and when I come back there'd better be less candles on that cake!

I saw this sentecen on a birthday card. There'd.. - d .. what does it stand for? would? had?

and my other question is: Can we use - less with countable and also uncountable nouns? It says less candles on that cake.. Shouldn't be fewer candless instead of less.?

    Thanks,

I saw this sentence on a birthday card ."There'd.. - d .." what does it stand for: "would"? "had"?.....There had better be ...

and my other question is: Can we use - "less" with countable and also uncountable nouns?.....No, though many people do.
It says "less candles on that cake.." Shouldn't be "fewer candless" instead of "less"? .....Yes
