1. Does quarryboy means the same as quarry worker?

2.What is 'a life of labour and restraint'?Does it mean a life in which men work very hard?

3.What is 'a slim, loose-jointed boy' like? Does it mean that he is thin, tall and not solid?

I haven't read the story, but you can probably deduce it from the context.

2.What is 'a life of labour and restraint'?Does it mean a life in which men work very hard?
Hard work and repression.

3.What is 'a slim, loose-jointed boy' like? Does it mean that he is thin, tall and not solid?
I suppose you'd say lanky or gangling rather than not solid.

'a life of labour and restraint' - 'Restraint' means that the workers had to refrain (or were restrained) from the luxuries of life. This is not necessarily contingent upon working hard, because some people manage to "work hard and play hard" (so they tell me).

'a slim, loose-jointed boy' - There's nothing here to say that he's tall.
