does that mean that Android is mopping up both the declining shares of Apple and RIM, or just RIM's declining mindshare? is there a difference between Apple's and RIM's, and Apple and RIM's? Thank you

It should be: Apple's and RIM's.

Agreed -- however in common speech you'll hear "Apple and RIM's" because the speaker is referring to the collective "Apple"+"RIM". This one is tricky.
