    Question 'platform' and 'setting' in maths?

    Hi all,
    Would anyone please tell me what these terms mean or refer to in maths? Many thanks in advance.

    This glossary of maths terms seems quite extensive, but isn't much help for your question.

    Try googling maths terms for more definitions.

    'Setting' may not be a maths term. At several schools in which I worked, most of the classes were mixed ability groups. A few chosen subjects, usually maths and, sometimes, French were setted. Classes, teaching groups, were organised by ability. This setting was supposed to ensure that the most able, taught with equally able pupils, were not held back by the slow progress of pupils with learning difficulties, and that pupils with learning difficulties learnt at a pace appropriate to their needs.
