    Default a gimmick

    Hello!

Can you tell me if this definition is correct, please?

"A gimmick does not only include funny faces or gestures, it can also be a device or a trick to attract attention."

    Thank you very much

It's a device or a trick to attract attention or to attract sales, yes. I wouldn't say that funny faces or gestures could be described as gimmicks.

A gimmick would be, for instance, selling a set of saucepans (rather boring) but offering a naked photograph of Brad Pitt free with the sale (much less boring!). The photo could be described as a gimmick designed to make people more interested in buying the main product.
