Default Could anyone please reword it

I came up with this sentence and seems a bit odd to me. Could anyone please reword it:

"As can be seen, in contrast to what their authors claim, the most powerful theories of metaphor from the 1980s and 90s fail as all-encompassing, fully-fledged conceptions."

    Thanks a lot.

It looks good to me as is, Csika, though I've no idea what it means.

Why do you want to reword it?

Edit: Oh, I know - so that dummies like me can understand it.
