If we use "could" instead of "can" to be more polite, are we obliged to use "would" instead of "will"?
One example:
I would/will appreciate if you could ...

We certainly start such sentences with "I would..."
I would be very grateful if you could send me the information.
I would appreciate it if you wouldn't do that.
I would like to know if he could fix my car on Friday.
