Hello,
What does 'spoken grammar'' mean? What is the difference between written and spoken grammar? Can you give me an example please?
Thank you.
I imagine that it means the grammar of the spoken language. More context would help.
I cant give any spesific context. I read this term on the English language teaching websites. I come across quite often but do not understand what it means actually.
Essentially, spoken grammar is the real grammar of English. But because writing lasts much longer than speech, we notice when we read that there are older, outmoded, or more conservative conventions at work there.
A student may regard grammar as the rules for combining words into sentences that sound clear, intelligible and natural. Just remember that formal speech differs from casual speech, and that there are many levels in between. Basically, the grammar of "written English" is usually associated with the most formal level of speech.
