Either is possible in that sentence, though I prefer 'that'. In the following, only 'it' is possible after 'find':

I find it strange that some people like killing animals.

And unfortunate readers (of writers who think abstraction makes them look clever despite the impaired communication that results) may see the 'it' expanded into a noun phrase:

This is heinous* 'writing' in my view, but stuff like that happens.
