    Does my sentence sound correct?

    By working on a soild material, the shape of a sculpture emerges/ forms.

    No, 'working' is a dangling participle. 'The shape' is not working; the sculptor is.
    "By working on a solid material, the sculptor makes the shape of the sculpture emerge."
