    Default admitted hospital

    Jay's mom was admitted hospital on Monday and discharged on Wednesday, then admitted again on Thursday and discharged on Saturday. The situation has been going on like this for half a year.

    Can I say:

    Jay's mom has been staying in the hospital on and off for half a year.

    Yes, but it would be more natural to write it this way - Jay's mom has been in the hospital on and off for half a year.
